History

From 1907 through to the 21st century, the historic events are reflected in the corporate history of Europäische Reiseversicherung. It is also a history that is marked by entrepreneurial spirit, progress, expansion and innovation.

1981: First-loss policies introduced.

1984: Insurance card introduced.

1985: Europäische becomes a member of IAE (ETI Group).

1986: Care Consult becomes a subsidiary of Europäische.

1988: The insurance shareholders Bundesländer, Wiener Allianz and Wiener Städtische withdraw from Europäische.

1991: Premiums increase over 27% up to the Gulf crisis.

1999: Premiums triple in the 1990s following the Gulf War.

2000: Dr Martin Sturzlbaum appointed CEO. Europäische focuses on incoming and business customers with its products Holiday in Austria, Welcome to Austria and CTI. Europ Assitance becomes a partner of Europäische.

2001: Europäische sets its sights on the Internet.

2002: The travel safety policy, with all important information, is introduced. GULET Touropa Touristik joins as a new cooperation partner.

2003: Europäische welcomes its 1,500th partner in the hotel industry.

2005: Introduction of the year-round travel protection product with customised packages for cancellation, health, accident and baggage insurance.

2006: New branding for Europäische.

2007: Market entry of Europäische as majority shareholder in Russia and Ukraine. Celebrations at Vienna’s city hall for the 100th birthday of Europäische Reiseversicherung.

2008: Mag. Wolfgang Lackner appointed member of the Board and CFO of Europäische.

2009: the new Komplett-Schutz Plus (Comprehensive Coverage Plus) product enhances the product range with additional cancellation causes and significantly higher insured sums. The additional service Storno Check (Cancellation Check) gives holidaymakers a second chance. Relocation to Kratochwjlestraße 4 in the 22nd district. 2014: On 10/06/2014, Mag. Wolfgang Lackner becomes the new chairman of Europäische. Mag. (FH) Andreas Sturmlechner joins the board. Dr Martion Sturzlbaum gives up his position as CEO. New annual business travel insurances for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are introduced. Re-launch of year-round travel insurance for private persons.

2015: For the sake of unified geographic control, the successfully developed branch in Slovakia is sold to Generali Slovakia on 01/01/2015. The yearly general assembly of the European Travel Insurance Group (ETIG) is held in Vienna in April.

2016: The website of Europäische is redesigned and equipped with an online travel insurance advisor. The new cancellation and travel product Bus-/Bahn-/Auto+Schutz (Bus/Train/Car+ Protection) is added to the product range for trips abroad. With the MEINE URLAUBERIA app, Europäische presents an innovative service offering travellers more security, a better overview and more added value.

2017: Europäische Reiseversicherung celebrates its 110th birthday.

2018: The new travel insurance standard: Structural simplification of short-term products.
The specialist magazine “Der Börsianer” names Europäische Reiseversicherung as the best Austrian specialist insurer. With 1st place as “Best Special Insurance” and also 3rd place in the “Best Insurance” category, it achieved top placements.

2019: Europäische Reiseversicherung is named "Industry Champion 2019" in the industry monitor created by the Society for Consumer Studies GmbH (ÖGVS) in cooperation with News magazine, the largest Austrian ranking in the area of ​​customer satisfaction.

2020: In the middle of the ´Corona year´, the Europäische Reiseversicherung is developing an innovative service for its customers that is included in medical service packages, the 'Reisedoc' or Tele-Traveldoc. Traveling with a doctor - always with you on your smartphone.
